The Asia Digital Art Award Fukuoka (ADAA) is a media art competition organized primarily by Kyushu University, Fukuoka Prefecture, and Fukuoka City, which started in 2001 as a space for discovering and cultivating creators possessing the high-level skills and sensitivity digital content creation demands from Northern Kyushu.

For this competition marking the 25th annual event, we received submissions of 591 works from 15 countries and regions, and a total of 53 works were selected to receive awards, in addition to the Asia Digital Art Award. There were seven works from Kyushu University which received awards, including The Minister of METI Award.

The award-winning works were announced on the official Asia Digital Art Award FUKUOKA website, and an exhibition of the award-winning works was held at the Fukuoka Art Museum (1-6 Ohori Koen, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City) from Tuesday, March 3 to Sunday, March 8, 2026, and the award ceremony was held on Saturday, March 7, 2026. Coinciding with the award announcement, the “DANC × ADAA Creators’ Talk: The World of ‘tap of emptiness’” was held in co-organization with the Kyushu University “Interdisciplinary Advanced Creative Human Resource Development Program through Art × Science (DANC).” Welcoming grand prize recipient Takemi Watanuki, the talk centered on his award-winning work tap of emptiness, with Watanuki discussing the concept and production methods behind the piece. The session was moderated by Associate Professor Kazuhiro Jo of the Faculty of Design.

Faculty of Design, Kyushu University will continue to make various efforts to further revitalize the media art field.
