The Asia Digital Art Award Fukuoka (ADAA) is a media art competition organized primarily by Kyushu University, Fukuoka Prefecture, and Fukuoka City, which started in 2001 as a space for discovering and cultivating creators possessing the high-level skills and sensitivity digital content creation demands from Northern Kyushu.

For this competition marking the 23rd annual event, we received submissions of 705 works from 20 countries and regions, and a total of 55 works were selected to receive awards, in addition to the Asia Digital Art Award. There were five works from Kyushu University which received awards, including Category Grand Award, the Fukuoka Governor’s Award.

The award-winning works were announced on the official Asia Digital Art Award FUKUOKA website, and an exhibition of the award-winning works was held at the Fukuoka Art Museum (1-6 Ohori Koen, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City) from Tuesday, March 12 to Sunday, March 17, 2024, and the award ceremony was held on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Coinciding with the award announcement, the ADAA Creators’ Talk “VR Animation Design — Through the Grand Prize Work ‘My Inner Ear Quartet’” was held in co-organization with the Narrative Design Course of the Faculty of Design, Graduate School of Design, Kyushu University. The three recipients of the 2023 ADAA Grand Prize (Asia Digital Art Award) for the VR animation work ‘My Inner Ear Quartet’ — novelist Yoko Ogawa, animation and picture-book artist director Koji Yamamura, and producer Kenji Ishimaru, President of Kodansha VR Lab Co., Ltd. — each shared their perspectives on the production process and their thoughts on the work.
