ReportsActivity Report 2019 : Content Creation Science Department2020.3.31

The Content Creation Science Department aims to utilize information and communication technology to fuse artistic sensitivity with various sciences and to further develop interdisciplinary research for the creation of valuable information with high originality and their practical implementation. Through supporting the production of environments conducive for experimental work using cutting-edge media technology, the department creates unique content and media art through fusing artistic sensitivity and science and conducts scientific research and evaluations of entertainment content.

One of the key highlights of the department is organizing and co-sponsorship of a symposium held in conjunction with the annual Asian competition “Asia Digital Art Awards FUKUOKA (ADAA)” at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum. The concept for this competition is to express a rich artistic expression focusing on Asian against the background of advanced media technology, and a new artistic sensibility based on logical thinking. Through this event, we aim to build a network of media art creators. The 2018 event celebrated its 18th anniversary, with 705 submissions from 15 countries and regions. Upon careful assessment, 64 works were selected for the awards.

Our department also initiated a collaboration between professors, university staff, students, other universities, industries, and other related organizations to hold “The First Fukuoka’s Future Sports Day” in March 2018. The goal is to cultivate a new academic research field. There were about 30 participants for the Sports Day Hackathon before the Sports Meet to brainstorm ideas for new sports activities. They came up with concepts such as a relay marathon with the Fukuoka specialty, mentaiko, as the baton, a game that could be enjoyed by those in a wheelchair, etc. More than 100 residents participated in testing out these newly designed sports in the event. This event has brought together participants from various backgrounds and positions, and people who have never met before. It gave them the chance to reflect on the nature of sports days and imagining a future based on what sports and design may look like in the years to come.
