About

The Kyushu University SDGs Design School is an educational activity conducted by the Faculty of Design in Kyushu University, which started in 2019. Aiming to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals in the field of design, we offer creative education programmes for a wide range of people, from children to adults.

Participants in the activities of the SDGs Design School will be able to develop 21st century skills, such as creativity, critical thinking and communication skills; and social-emotional learning. For example, in one of our collaborative programmes with schools, high school students explored various social issues around them. The issues students explored are such as the economy, health, waste issues, climate change and education. Students worked with teachers to come up with solutions using design thinking and speculative proposals to look a little further into the future. Students learnt how to contribute to the SDGs from everyday life, while teachers were able to put into practice new teaching and educational methods that meet the diverse needs of the community and the rapid changes in society.

We develop educational programs that address the SDGs together with schools, companies, governments and organizations, exchanging ideas and opinions in response to their consultations. The outcomes presented here are educational tools, programs and teaching methods that incorporate design way of thinking and methods, which we compile into manuals or videos and disseminate to the world as open-source teaching materials.

Join us in expanding education that fosters creativity towards the SDGs.
